Have you ever heard of a SMASHED penny? You may have seen these at popular tourist destinations. Collectors call them elongated coins. They are made on a special machine that takes a Lincoln penny. By using several thousand pounds of pressure and an engraved die, that penny will get SMASHED and stretched into a special souvenir that commemorates a visit to a memorable place.

For some people it is an impulse purchase, an inexpensive souvenir that could last forever. For others, it is a hobby to collect as many as they can. For this collector, he or she may purchase more than one. Now they will have a duplicate that they can trade with other collectors around the world.
